From the Nelsons design stable, the Seaward 25 is another firm favourite amongst the sailing fraternity. The option to step aboard after breakfast, turn the keys and be in Cherbourg for lunch will appeal to all those more used to the typical 12-14 hour English Channel crossings. Twin diesel inboard engines on shaft drives are standard on this craft, with a choice of 75hp, or 110hp from the Yanmar 4JH4 series. The engines are installed completely independently of each other, each with their own fuel tank and electrical system. The deep 3/4 length keel with twin rudders and contra-rotating propellers make simple work of negotiating the most difficult berth with this craft that will rotate on its own length when one engine is put astern and the other ahead. This amazing maneuverability is not just the result of having two engines but is the result of a combination of many other factors unique on a semi-displacement craft of this size.
The Seaward 25 is designed for use offshore and cross Channel and has undergone stability testing by Lloyd's Register for compliance with the new Recreational Craft Directive Category B for use in wind speeds up to force 8 and wave heights up to 4 meters.
The craft can be supplied semi custom built or to the following to Standard Specification:-
HULL
Round bilge semi-displacement type with flared bow and forward sloping transom with tumblehome. Varnished teak spray rails and all round 3" rubber D fendering plus two vertical sections at the stern quarters compliment the purposeful looks of the craft and provide extra protection when going alongside. The hull and all G.R.P. mouldings are hand laid in our modern Lloyds approved factory. Standard colour Blue.
DECK / SUPERSTRUCTURE
This is a one piece G.R.P. moulding with substantial gunwales and wide non slip decks incorporating a bevelled toe rail for additional safety. The superstructure has a large vertical flange that overlaps with a similar flange on the hull before being through bolted and laminated to the hull. Standard colour White.
DECK FITTINGS
Standard fittings include, heavy duty bow roller, stainless steel pulpit, three stainless steel mooring bollards, hand rails on wheelhouse and coachroof, chain pipe,two fairleads forward, teak mast, four fender eyes each side and a set of anchor chocks. Grab handles are also fitted on the aft wheelhouse cappings, to assist access from the cockpit to the side decks. An optional pilot type inboard handrail system or an extended pulpit are available as variations to the standard layout.
FORE CABIN
Access to the forward cabin is through
a teak door from the wheelhouse. The cabin includes two V berths
6' 2"in length with a folding leaf table. A deep shelf surrounds
the whole of the forward area giving ample stowage space. A bulkhead
at the forward part forms the chain locker fitted with a watertight
access hatch. The heads compartment is to port containing a marine
WC, hand basin and a cold water tap. The 'no gas' galley unit
is fitted to starboard and now includes an Avonite worktop fitted
with a neat ceramic diesel fired hob and inset stainless steel
sink with Avonite cover. The fuel supply to the diesel hob is
connected direct to one of the main fuel tanks. A 240v microwave
cooker is fitted as standard. Power for the microwave is via the
ring main shore supply connection.
An inverter/charger is available on the optional extras list that
will enable the microwave and ring main to be used when shore
power is not available. Ventilation is by way of two vents fitted
on the coach roof, a deck hatch and six port lights of the opening
type.
WHEELHOUSE
The wheelhouse is fully enclosed but with no less than four slide opening windows and a stable type door - there is plenty of fresh air for those who like plenty of it. Entrance to the wheelhouse is from the cockpit via a stable type door arrangement. The helm position is on the port side. The steering, engine controls and main instruments are all mounted in a GRP console moulding. A chart table/stowage locker is fitted to starboard with a hanging locker beneath. Padded seats are fitted each side for the helmsman and navigator. These seats are fitted with adjustable sliders and turntables and are mounted on adjustable height pedestals. There are a pair of stowage lockers outboard of each of the wheelhouse seats. There is space available behind each seat for stowage of things like liferaft and cool box.
COCKPIT
The cockpit is fully self draining by way of drains through the transom fitted with non-return flaps. The sole that has a built in camber slopes slightly downwards at the aft end to ensure full drainage. There is easy access to the engines through the forward cockpit seats that have hinged tops, and access to the steering gear and fuel system under the aft seat locker that comes with a lift out stowage box. There are lockers fitted port and starboard for general stowage.
A tonneau cover is supplied as standard with the Seaward 25. Alternative arrangements including dodgers and full canopy with doors and windows are available on the options list. The cabin table can be easily transferred and set up in the cockpit area for al fresco dining or when entertaining.
ENGINE AND STERN GEAR
The craft is supplied with a choice of two engine options each based on twin inboard diesels with conventional stern gear and twin rudders. Twin stainless steel fuel tanks of approximately 28.5 gallons (130 litres) each provide a separate supply to each engine. An emergency link valve is included to enable all the fuel to be available to one engine in the event the other engine should break down.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Two 90 amp hour batteries with isolating selector switches are fitted as standard. Power circuits are protected by circuit breakers mounted in the instrument console. Standard electrical equipment includes,two 2- speed pantograph wipers, horn, navigation lights, anchor light, six interior lights, two fuel gauges, electric bilge pump with float switch. A 240 volt ring main with two power sockets is included as standard along with a 240 volt microwave cooker.
DECOR
The craft is finished with teak veneered bulkheads and teak trim. Side and overhead linings in the wheelhouse and cabin are of foam-backed vinyl. The shelf in the cabin is carpeted, as are the hull sides above the V berths. Foam cushions are provided for the V berths and the aft cockpit seat. The cabin sole is carpeted and covers are supplied for the port lights. Owners are given choice of materials for interior and cockpit upholstery.

LAUNCHING AND COMMISSIONING
Prices include launching, handover and a two-hour sea trial at Cowes. The sea trial includes useful instructions on maneuvering your Seaward with twin engines.
